Exxon Mobil (XOM) — Strong Trend, Limited Room to Chase | October 23–28, 2026
MARKET OUTLOOK: BULLISH STRUCTURE, EXTENDED TACTICAL LOCATION
XOM finished Friday near the top of its range having established substantially higher value. The trend remains constructive, but the next decision is whether buyers can defend a fresh pullback or establish a new base above resistance.
Preferred action: Wait for a fresh defense of 181.65–182.10. A failed auction at 183.30–183.75 provides an alternative short scenario, but extension alone does not establish a reversal.
The underlying review was completed October 23, circa 22:05–22:10 UTC. Friday’s daily close was 183.21 on the NYSE-labelled Cboe/BATS share feed. No fresh entry satisfying the complete confirmation and reward requirements was verified.
ACROSS THE TIMEFRAMES
Weekly and Daily structure remains bullish, with price above rising KAMAs.
The 4H advance also remains constructive.
The 48m and 24m charts show tactical extension beyond a rising pitchfork channel. Strong momentum supports the trend, while softer short-term momentum argues for patience with entry location.
Friday’s TPO value area rose to 181.65–183.30, with its point of control at 182.63, compared with Thursday’s POC at 177.38. Higher accepted value is the strongest continuation evidence. Late buying pressure was less decisive than the earlier advance.
PRINCIPAL DECISION LEVELS
183.30–183.75: Upper decision area and Friday’s high.
182.63: Rotational middle and nearest target for either edge scenario.
181.65–182.10: Preferred pullback-defense area.
180.45: First lower checkpoint if 181.65 fails.
179.95 and 179.00: Subsequent lower references.
CONFIRMATION AND CONDITIONAL PLANS
By ‘Confirmation’ we mean: Two consecutive FULL, completed 24m regular-session closes strictly beyond the gate, followed by a separate, later completed 6m retest. Longs need a higher low closing above the gate; shorts need a failed reclaim/lower high closing below it. Retests inside the second 24m candle do not qualify.
1. Fresh lower-edge defense.
After a new probe into 181.65–182.10, require confirmation above 182.10. The first objective is 182.63. Only renewed acceptance through that level opens 183.30 and 183.75.
Illustrative geometry: entry 182.11, stop 181.98, T1 182.63. The stop uses the observed 182.03 swing low plus a 0.05 buffer. This produces 4.00R gross but only 1.83R after the base cost allowance: insufficient for the required 2 net R.
2. Fresh upper rejection.
After a new test of 183.30–183.75, require confirmation below 183.30. T1 is 182.63, followed conditionally by 182.10 and 181.65.
Illustrative geometry: entry 183.29, stop 183.85, T1 182.63. The stop is 0.10 above Friday’s high. Reward is 1.18R gross and approximately 0.85R net: also insufficient.
These are feasibility examples, not standing orders. A new swing changes the stop. The assumed round-trip cost is 0.10 per share, deducted from reward and added to risk; doubling it reduces the examples to 0.97R and 0.61R respectively.
Above 183.75, establish a new base and identify the next actual resistance before assigning a target. Below 181.65, a confirmed failed retest encounters 180.45 first.
EVENTS AND EXECUTION
Wednesday brings EIA petroleum data at 10:30 EDT, followed by the Fed decision at 14:00 and press conference at 14:30. These are separate reassessment points.
Under this plan, retire pending setups at 10:15 before EIA and 13:45 before the Fed. Exxon’s October 30 earnings fall outside this outlook.
A completed 24m close back across the gate resets confirmation; breach of the structural stop cancels the setup. Pending setups expire when T1 trades after the fresh probe but before entry, six full 24m bars after the second confirming close, at a material event, or at the 16:00 EDT cash close—whichever comes first. Refresh the map at the next cash open. Closing stub bars do not count as full 24m confirmation.
NOTATE BENE
MA’s: Purple is Fast KAMA (10,2,30); pink is Slow KAMA (10,5,30).
PITCHFORK CHANNEL: The updated descending fork supplies trend context. Light-gray lines describe the fitted path, gray fill the core, and burgundy outer areas its extensions. Sloping boundaries change price with time; warning areas do not independently confirm reversal.
